Indian Creek Valley Trail

5.2 mi Out-and-back 515 ft gain

Indian Creek Valley Trail is a Pennsylvania rail-trail in northeast Fayette and southeast Westmoreland Counties about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The Saltlick Township-owned Section opened in 1989, where the trail traverses Indian Creek along the former Indian Creek Valley Railroad (ICVRR). The second phase opened in 2009, and is in Donegal Township; however, it is owned by the Mountain Watershed Association. Plans call to extend the trail further in the future.

Thunderstorms in the forecast — lightning and cyclists are a bad combination.

  • Thunderstorms — lightning and cyclists do not mix — get off the road before they arrive.
  • Pavement: wet — wet during the likely ride window — reduced braking, road spray, limited visibility to drivers.
  • 66°F air — right in road cycling's sweet spot
  • 21 mph wind — noticeable — pacing will shift with the wind.
